🔥 Skip the Hot Dogs — Costco Sausages That Will Steal the Show This 4th of July
Sharing with you the sausage that I found on my last Costco visit that would be great on the grill for 4th of July weekend.
It’s 4th of July tomorrow! Are you planning to grill. We are going to have hot dogs for the kids, but for the adults, I picked up some sausage.
The type of sausage available at Costco can vary, depending on your location. I find different flavors for a limited time.
Let me share what I found on my last trip and what I choose for my 4th of July cookout.

What I love about Costco’s sausage selection is that have pork, beef, and chicken option, so if you don’t get one certain type of meat, you have other options. Or if you just want to try something different. The Kirkland Mild Italian and the Kiolbassa Beef are two that are pretty consistent in the stores.
What am I trying for 4th of July? I picked out the Greenridge Caramelized Sweet Onion Beef Sausage. I love caramelized onions, so I am looking forward to trying out this flavor of sausage. I have had Greenridge. Their refrigerated beef sticks that Costco also carries are really good.
Greenridge makes their sausage in Chicago. The owners have Polish and Italian roots. I will report back to how the sausage turns out!
Here are a few simple tips or reminders for cooking sausage on the grill:
Know whether you’re cooking raw sausage or pre-cooked/smoked sausage—this makes a big difference in cooking times and how hot your grill should be. If you’re just browning pre-cooked sausage, you can use higher heat. But if it’s raw, you don’t want to burn the outside before the inside is fully cooked.
Either way, I always keep an instant-read thermometer on hand to take the guesswork out. It’s the best way to know for sure when your sausage is cooked to a safe temperature.
Sausages in casings can burst if cooked over high heat, so aim for medium heat—around 350–450°F. If the sausage is browning too fast, simply move it to indirect heat to finish cooking gently.
And one more thing—use tongs, not a fork, to turn your sausages. A fork can pierce the casing and let all those flavorful juices escape.
