Costco to Implement Membership Card Scanning for Store Entry
Multiple news outlets have been reporting that Costco is going to scan membership card on entry, what are your thoughts?
Costco have been making headlines for the last few week or so for two different reasons:
The increase in membership cost for Gold Star Members from $60 to $65 or from $120 to $130 for the Executive Membership.
That they will be scanning people’s membership cards at the door
Obviously no one likes the cost of the membership going up, but what does everyone think of the scanning of cards at the door? Has anyone seen this at their store yet?
The thing I am most wondering about is how long will this process take and will it cause a bottleneck as you are entering the store. The reports I have read seem to indicate that you won’t be asked for your card anymore at checkout, so I could see the advantage of not having to get your card out when you enter and then also get it out when you checkout.
Their reasoning behind this is to cut down on people sharing memberships.
What do you guys think of this new policy? Let’s get a conversation going. Leave a comment below and share your thoughts. Are you for this or against it? Or does it even matter to you at all?

Excellent Idea if this helps cut down on theft. I always have my card out to show so it doesn't make any difference to me. That way they will know who is in the store in case of an emergency, like a fire or earthquake.
It seems like it would cause more of a backup. Presently I hold my card up to be seen as I walk around all the people that stop right inside the door to hunt for their wallet and then try to find their card.
